Drawing a blank for your social media content? You can use ChatGPT to come up with ideas that are likely to get good engagement, then use it to write the copy for you too.
You’ll need a topic that you want to write posts about - in our case, “How to build an online tutorial business”.
We’ll start by generating some formulas for writing successful headlines on our topic.
Here’s the prompt I used:
You're an expert copywriter. I'm going to give you a topic, you give me some proven formulas for successful headlines.
Then define the topic you want to write about.
Ok, a lot of these look familiar from content around the web.
Now we want ChatGPT to write headlines based on those formulas.
I’ll ask it to come up with 3 variations for each formula it mentioned, related to our topic.
I picked a headline and asked ChatGPT to come up with a tweet using a few parameters I defined. The result is pretty bland.
So instead of asking it to do it again, I’m going to edit my prompt (hover → click the ✏️) and add a few more parameters.
Great! Let's use "{HEADLINE YOU PICK}"
Write a tweet based on this headline.
- it must be less than 280 characters
- do not include any hashtags
- start the tweet with one sentence that grabs attention of a reader
- use bullet points in the tweet as the main body of text. e.g. actionable tips related to the headline
- provide specific, helpful tips related to the headline
- Focus on tips that are lesser known by users
- use simple language that isn't sales-y, advertise-y, or buzzword-y
Better! You’ll notice the pagination “ 1 / 3 “ which is just from me clicking the regenerate button several times to see if there is an output I prefer. In this case, the first one was the best.
Now we’re going to use that tweet to create a tweet thread using the below prompt. Notice how I separated the important parameters to remember and then how ‘FORMAT’ is in CAPS to make it easier to understand.
Other tips:
- Give it praise to know if it’s on the right track - ‘great’, ‘that’s perfect’ etc.
- Give an example to help it create the kind of content you’re looking for - ‘something like X’, ‘an example would be Y’ etc.
That's perfect.
Using that tweet, expand it into a tweet thread, where each bullet point makes up it's own tweet in the thread.
- No hashtags
- Each tweet should be less than 280 characters
- Use the below format
FORMAT:
- In each tweet, use a sentence opener, something like 'Niche = Your passion + Market', as an example for the first one.
- Then add a few bullet points that goes into more detail and gives more tips
- give specific examples to help the user understand
Now, using that tweet thread, we’re going to ask for a LinkedIn post.
Fantastic. Now turn that tweet thread into a Linkedin post (3000 characters maximum).
- Start with the original headline
- Make it easily skimmable with sections, bullets, lists etc
- short simple sentences and paragraphs with only 3-4 sentences maximum.
